Map Tool
This is a sustainability tool built to increase accessibility to everyday environmentalism, whether that is through individual actions and purchases or through community connection and volunteerism. Here, Berkeley students and residents can find local volunteer opportunities, thrift stores in the area, as well as environmentally conscious stores. After survey results with hundreds of students, dozens of interviews, and several iterations, we have learned that environmental action can be daunting and overwhelming for students- we have built this tool to combat that.
This is a full-stack system that starts with a web-scraping script that finds information about sustainable shops and volunteering opportunities. Then a backend system stores and cleans this data. Finally, we use Google Maps’ API to render this data for users on our website.
